Evergreen’s new container ship “EVER LUNAR” to join Far East–Persian Gulf route in January

On the 26th, the Evergreen Group held a naming ceremony for the “EVER LUNAR,” the seventh “L-type” vessel built by CSBC Corporation, Taiwan, at its Kaohsiung shipyard. The ceremony was presided over by Evergreen Group’s Vice Chairman Ko Li-ching, and the bottle-breaking ceremony was performed by Ms. Lin Mei-chun, who offered blessings for the new ship’s smooth voyages and full loads on every trip. The new vessel is scheduled for delivery next January and will be deployed on the Far East–Persian Gulf route.

The “EVER LUNAR” is operated by Evergreen Marine. According to the Evergreen Group, the vessel is 334.8 meters long, 45.8 meters wide, and has a draft of 14.2 meters. It can carry 8,508 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) standard containers and has a cruising speed of up to 24.5 knots. In terms of ship design, the L-type vessels continue Evergreen’s eco-friendly ship concept, utilizing advanced shipbuilding technology and equipped with multiple environmentally friendly facilities to achieve energy saving, emission reduction, and cost reduction goals.

The Evergreen Group launched a shipbuilding plan for 30 L-type vessels in 2010, ordering 20 and 10 8,500 TEU-class container ships from Samsung Heavy Industries and CSBC Corporation, Taiwan, respectively. The 20 vessels built by Samsung Heavy Industries were all delivered by July this year. With the delivery of the “EVER LUNAR” built by CSBC Corporation, the number of L-type vessels in the fleet has reached 27. The remaining three new ships are expected to be completed and delivered by the third quarter of next year, gradually replacing chartered vessels upon expiration.
