Our Lady of Good Success Church

Our Lady of Good Success Church is located on Calçada da Igreja de São Lourenço. Also known as São Lourenço Church or colloquially as Fēngshùn Táng (Our Lady of Good Success), it is a famous cathedral in Macau, covering a vast area. In front of the church, there are grand stone staircases on both sides leading directly to the main entrance, exuding an impressive aura. The garden is planted with palm trees, and the interior of the sanctuary is adorned with vintage chandeliers, creating a majestic and solemn atmosphere that is truly distinctive. The establishment of Our Lady of Good Success predates 1599 and has undergone several renovations over the years, with one of the more significant ones taking place in 1618. The redecoration carried out in 1979 also added renewed splendor to this ancient church. The architectural design of the church is grand and magnificent.

Two bell towers stand facing each other — one houses a clock used for timekeeping, while the other contains a bronze bell rung during church masses. The roof of the church features traditional Chinese-style gabled tiles, and the interior decor is rich in oriental charm, elegant and quaint. The interior is spacious and imposing, with massive beams and exquisite chandeliers that convey a sense of grandeur and magnificence.

The altar enshrines a statue of Saint Lawrence dressed in resplendent robes, holding a Bible in one hand and a pastoral staff in the other. Majestic and solemn, he is regarded by Portuguese sailors as the patron saint who guards their safety and bestows favorable winds.
