Chinese people have the habit of buying local souvenirs wherever they go, and Macao’s souvenirs boast a long history. Items such as almond cookies, peanut candy, and dried meats have become standout representatives of Macao’s souvenir culture. With support from the renowned Macao-based Koi Kei Bakery, the “Koi Kei Charity Association” was established to preserve Macao’s local culture and safeguard precious history. After years of planning, it founded the world’s first museum themed around souvenirs — the Macao Souvenir Museum.

Established on July 19, 2011, the Macao Souvenir Museum invited celebrity food critic and writer Chua Lam and well-known personality Ada Choi to attend its opening ceremony. Located near Macao’s famous A-Ma Temple, the museum’s design incorporates elements of Macao’s Sino-Portuguese culture. The exhibition space showcases a selection of Macao’s century-old souvenir history artifacts, including nostalgic pastry shop scenes, packaging paper from mooncakes over a hundred years ago, and containers used to carry souvenirs — all available for free public viewing. The Macao Souvenir Museum preserves historical exhibits that embody the unique characteristics of Macao’s souvenir culture. The museum also utilizes cutting-edge augmented reality technology to create interactive experiences, adding an engaging and fun dimension for visitors.
