The Lin Zexu Memorial Museum in Macau serves as a base for patriotic education.

Introduction

The Lin Zexu Memorial Museum in Macau houses many precious historical materials, including the desk used by Lin Zexu when he stayed at the Lin Fung Temple to meet with Portuguese officials from Macau, as well as his memorials to Emperor Daoguang regarding the ban on opium, the destruction of opium, and his inspection tours of Macau. In the memorial stele pavilion of the museum, there are three bluestone tablets erected in the 31st year of the Guangxu reign (1905), including the “Imperial Edict,” “Imperial Sacrificial Grant,” and “Imperial Inscribed Stele Text” from the 30th year of the Daoguang reign (1850). To the north of the pavilion is the Shude Hall, which enshrines a seated statue of Lin Zexu. The entire museum is built in the style of a classical Chinese garden. Transportation

Lin Zexu, courtesy name Yuanfu, also known as Shaomu or Shilin, and in his later years as the Old Man of Sicun, was from Gudong Street, Houguan, Fujian (now part of Gulou District, Fuzhou City). He was born on July 26, 1785, during the 50th year of the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty. His father, Lin Binri, courtesy name Mengyang, alias Yanggu, made a living as a teacher; his mother, Chen Zhi, earned extra income for the family by doing needlework and paper-cutting. At the age of four, Lin Zexu began his early education under his father and gained a reputation for literary talent in his youth. In 1798, during the third year of the Jiaqing reign, he passed the local imperial examination (xiucai) and studied at the Aofeng Academy, where he began to focus on practical learning for governance.
