The annual “2014 Miaoli Hakka Tung Blossom Festival Opening Ceremony and Tung Blossom Concert” will be held from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM on April 19th at the Tung Blossom Park in Tongluo Township. This year will feature, for the first time, the concept of landscape art, blending musical floral scenes with the mountain town’s beauty, allowing visitors to discover the charm of Miaoli’s mountainous city during the tung blossom season.

This year’s concert incorporates a theatrical concept, featuring popular idol Bi Shujin—who ranked in the top ten for album sales last year—as well as diva Gary Chen, Hakka songstress Zhu Lijing, film score maestro Fan Zongpei, rising Hakka artist Zheng Chaofang, and Puff Sister, among other artists. During the performance, singers will use stage props to present scenarios such as love, memories, leisure, celebrations, and nursery rhymes under the tung blossom trees. Additionally, the cross-genre band Yuefu Orchestra will deliver a spectacular performance combining Eastern and Western instruments.
The Tung Blossom Concert will also introduce, for the first time, the concept of tung blossom landscapes. In addition to a large tung blossom windmill landscape to be set up in Tung Blossom Park, the Miaoli County Government is inviting visitors to create their own tung blossom landscapes using fallen blossoms. Simply take a photo of your creation, check in on Facebook, and have it verified by staff to receive a roll of washi tape featuring Miaoli’s distinctive tourist attractions. DIY tung blossom windmills will also be available on-site for the public to make, turning the spinning windmills in visitors’ hands into moving floral displays within the Tung Blossom Park.
