Mong-Há Fort

Introduction

Mong-Há Fort is located on the scenic Mong-Há Hill in the northern part of Macau. Its construction began in 1849, with the purpose of defending against the Qing dynasty’s army. The fort's construction resumed in 1864 and was completed in 1866, covering an area of 6,300 square feet. The fort ceased operation only in 1960. Later, it was converted into a camp for non-European Portuguese soldiers stationed in Macau, which is why the valley is called “Black Men’s Hill.” The site has now been transformed into the Mong-Há Hill Municipal Park, which boasts a very beautiful environment with shaded mountain paths and abundant flowers and trees. The Roman-style square, fountains, artificial lake, waterfalls, and corridors here complement the ancient fort, making it a great destination for tourists.
