The Venetian Hotel
The Venetian Macao-Resort-Hotel, invested in by Las Vegas Sands Group of the United States, is a Venetian-themed resort that cost approximately 20 billion yuan to build. This resort, which adopts a diversified business philosophy, offers 3,000 luxury guest rooms along with extensive facilities for conventions, exhibitions, shopping, sports, entertainment, and leisure. Among them, the 110,000-square-meter exhibition venue is poised to become a competitor to Hong Kong. The hotel is located in the Cotai Strip area of Macao’s reclaimed land on the Cotai Boulevard and stands 39 stories tall.
The Venetian Resort boasts world-class facilities that even surpass those in Las Vegas, USA. These include luxurious guest rooms exceeding 60 square meters, a Grand Canal Shoppes district spanning nearly 100,000 square meters that gathers global luxury brands, an 8,000-square-meter spa, as well as resident shows by Cirque du Soleil. It is expected that the opening of the Venetian Resort will not only attract gamblers but also draw numerous business conferences and exhibitions to Macao. The resort aims to draw in a group of high-spending business travelers to spend in Macao.
The Venetian Resort’s exhibition venue covers an area of 110,000 square meters—twice the size of Hong Kong’s Convention and Exhibition Centre—but at half the participation cost. After its opening, the center will host a series of conferences and exhibitions, including the 12th Macao International Trade and Investment Fair in mid-October and the Asia Food & Wine Festival & Hotel & Catering Equipment Exhibition in early November. In just two years, over 40 exhibitions and conferences will be held, posing a significant threat to Hong Kong’s exhibition industry.
Sheldon Adelson, Chairman of Las Vegas Sands Group in the United States, stated that developing exhibition venues is not about competing with Hong Kong or other mainland cities. His group’s operational strategy is to develop integrated resort projects. He also mentioned that in recent three years, the number of Chinese tourists visiting Las Vegas casinos has grown rapidly, especially those from Guangdong. He is actually more concerned that the number of guest rooms at The Venetian Hotel may not meet demand.
William Weidner, President and Chief Operating Officer of the group, said he is very optimistic about Macao’s gaming industry. The original Sands Casino has been growing rapidly, and the new Venetian Casino, once opened, can also attract different types of guests, with good growth expected.
The Venetian Resort is themed around Venice, the water city of Italy. The hotel surroundings are filled with Venetian-style features such as arched bridges, small canals, and cobblestone paths. It exudes the romantic, unrestrained, and life-enjoying exotic charm of Venice. In addition to its architectural features, the casino hall with over 700 gaming tables is also an advantage that other casinos find hard to match.
