The Taipa Houses-Museum

The Taipa Houses-Museum is located on Rua Correia da Silva in the old town area of Taipa, Macau. It was formerly the building of the former Municipal Council of the Islands. The two-story structure covers an area of 638 square meters and was originally built in 1920. After renovation by the Macao Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau, it opened to the public on May 7, 2006. The museum features 20th-century architectural style and is of neoclassical design, with a Roman-style triangular pediment. Offices are situated on both sides of the main staircase, and the lower level of the auxiliary building features an elegant series of continuous arches, with the continuous arch rings being a stylistic feature of Roman architecture.

The exhibitions at the Taipa Houses-Museum are richly diverse. The first floor mainly showcases artifacts unearthed from Coloane, the stone structure ruins of the basement of the former Municipal Council of the Islands in Taipa, the evolution of various villages on the outlying islands, and religious culture, allowing visitors to grasp the early history and culture of Taipa and Coloane. The second floor hosts exhibitions with varying themes, introducing the history of the former Municipal Council of the Islands, an overview of agriculture and some handicraft industries, the architectural characteristics of Taipa and Coloane, as well as the direction of recent development in the area, providing visitors with a deep understanding of the political development and economic life of Taipa and Coloane in the modern era.
