The building was originally built in 1911 as the Coloane Municipal School run by the local government. It underwent several changes in use before being converted into a library in 1983. The Coloane Library building is a quaint and elegant single-story structure in Portuguese style, featuring a front porch supported by six pillars. It bears a strong resemblance to the former Taipa Library building, which now houses the Civil Registry Office. It is now a Macao heritage site.
