Hong Kong Moral Society Tuen Mun Shan Hing Tung Ancient Cave

Tuen Mun Shin Hing Tung (English: Tuen Mun Sin Hing Tung), also known as “Shan Hing Ancient Cave,” is a Taoist temple operated by the Hong Kong Moral Society (Hong Kong Society for the Promotion of Virtue), located at 11 Tuen Fat Road, Tuen Mun, New Territories, Hong Kong (at 20th milestone on Castle Peak Road), near Tuen Mun Town Centre.

The Shan Hing Cave is a branch altar of the Fook Hing Hall of the Moral Society. Both trace their origins to the Zi Dong Shan Tang, Shan Hing Shan Tang, Guangzhou Shan Tang, and Chong Zheng Shan Tang in China. The Shan Hing Cave was founded by a group of merchants from Nanhai, including Au Lim Chu, Law Shin On, Yip Hok Wing, and Wong Tsz Lam. Its mission is to “study the profound teachings of the Three Teachings' sages, promote virtue, and uphold righteousness in people's hearts.” It is a registered temple, a limited company, and a charitable organization. The Shan Hing Cave enshrines deities such as the Jade Emperor, Confucius, Lü Dongbin, and Guanyin. Major annual celebrations at the Shan Hing Cave include the Ancestral Memorial Ceremony, the Yu Lan Festival, and the Chung Yeung Ritual Ceremony.

Main Gate Archway: A horizontal plaque inscribed “Hong Kong Moral Society” by Huo Zongjie in the spring of 2001 (Year of the Snake); a couplet by Zhao Yuk Sau: “Cultivate good karma in this blessed land; may auspicious clouds forever shelter this small immortal isle.” Fude Shrine: Houses a statue of the Earth God, with a couplet reading: “Revered for long life, he is the deity of fortune; this blessed ground gathers myriad blessings.” Shan Hing Pavilion: Couplets include: “Cultivate virtuous roots in this resounding land; unite in moral gatherings within the forest of virtue.” And: “Observe worldly affairs to see their twists; experience life’s joys and sorrows to know true feelings.” “Moral Path” built in 2010: Couplet: “The Way spans millennia with uprightness alone; Virtue benefits all things and serves the people’s livelihood.” Moral Pavilion: Couplets include: “In the Moral Pavilion, ponder Buddhist verses; in the Garden of Heaven and Earth, grasp the secrets of Zen.” And: “A bright moon above a pavilion by green waters; slanting sunlight on half a wall facing green hills.” Fook Hing Hall Main Shrine: Couplet: “Accumulate good deeds and enjoy boundless joy; this blessed cave paradise is truly X is X.”
