Kowloon Walled City Park

Built on the former site of the Qing dynasty Kowloon Walled City at Jat Chuen Road in Kowloon City, the park covers an area of 31,000 square meters. When the territory north of Kowloon was leased in 1898, it was explicitly stated that the walled city was not included. As a result, over the next nearly hundred years, numerous conflicts arose due to governance issues in the area. Additionally, the unique environment of the place led to a long period of lawlessness and disorder, making it a notorious blot on the urban landscape. It was not until 1987 that the Chinese and British governments reached an agreement to turn the site into a park.

Kowloon Walled City Park is designed with a theme inspired by classical gardens of China’s Jiangnan region. To preserve the historical spirit of the site, original structures such as the old yamen (government office), moat, ancient wells, and walls have been maintained. Nearby shopping and entertainment centers also make it a popular choice for Hong Kong families during holidays.

Transportation:

1. Exit B at Lok Fu MTR Station, walk along Junction Road for about 15 minutes, then turn left onto Tung Tau Tsuen Road to reach the park.

2. Take bus No. 1 from Tsim Sha Tsui Star Ferry Pier and get off right at the park entrance.
