Hong Kong Housing Authority Exhibition Centre

The Hong Kong Housing Authority Exhibition Centre, located on the 3rd floor of Homantin Plaza at 80 Fuk Wing Street, Chai Wan Kok, Kowloon, Hong Kong, is a museum that introduces the development of public housing in Hong Kong, managed by the Hong Kong Housing Authority.

The centre was opened in 1996, initially featuring a two-storey exhibition pavilion and a single-storey visitor centre constructed with steel structural components and prefabricated parts. The site was situated at the junction of Fuk Wing Street and Sheung Fu Street, Chai Wan Kok (now the location of Block 3 of the Housing Authority Headquarters), and displayed demonstration units for elderly housing and Harmony-style Home Ownership Scheme flats. To accommodate the development of Homantin Plaza, the original site closed on 30 September 1997, and the exhibition was relocated to a park at the junction of Fuk Wing Street and Sheung Shing Street, reopening on 17 January 1998. The demonstration units remained open until 27 July 1998.

After the completion of Homantin Plaza, the Housing Authority set up the permanent site for the exhibition centre at Shop 301A on the 3rd floor of the shopping mall. It was officially opened on 18 July 2002 by the Acting Secretary for Home Affairs, Michael Suen Ming-yeung, and the Permanent Secretary for Housing, Planning and Lands (Housing), Leung Chin-man, and opened to the public on 21 July 2002. On 24 November 2007, the reception counter originally located at Shop 317A on the 3rd floor of Homantin Plaza was closed due to the expiry of the lease, and the public entrance was moved to the 4th floor.

The centre emphasizes interactivity and innovation. Its exhibition areas include: Time Tunnel, a stepped exhibition route that takes visitors through the development of the public housing programme via photos, physical displays, and model units; Observation Bridge, located in the centre of the exhibition area and built over a 1:1000 scale model of Hong Kong’s public housing planning, allowing visitors to view the distribution of Housing Authority projects across the urban area; as well as an Information Corner, Workshop, and Introduction Theatre.
