Sam Jih Heung

Also known as Tsing Yi Shan, Sam Jih Heung is a mountain peak in Hong Kong, located in the southern part of Tsing Yi in the New Territories. It consists of three peaks aligned in a row, with an elevation of 334 meters. Both the Cheung Tsing Tunnel and the Nam Wan Tunnel run beneath the mountain, connecting the eastern and western parts of Tsing Yi. The name “Sam Jih Heung” (literally “Three Incense Sticks”) comes from the fact that its three peaks, arranged from south to north, resemble three incense sticks when viewed from afar; in ancient geographical terms, Tsing Yi Shan had another meaning, referring to a mountain at sea, which is what “Tsing Yi” signifies.

Sam Jih Heung covers most of the area of Tsing Yi Island. There is a mountain pass between it and Tsing Yan Shan in the northwest of the island, where Castle Peak Road West is built. The three peaks of Sam Jih Heung are arranged from north to south in increasing height, with the highest southern peak reaching 334 meters. The mountain is surrounded by sea on three sides, and from its summit, one can see the western part of Victoria Harbour and, to the northeast, the entire Tsuen Wan area. There are already paved mountain paths for hiking, making it a great trekking route. However, the Hong Kong government has no immediate plans to develop the area, so there is currently no road leading up the mountain.
