Ting Kau Bridge

Ting Kau Bridge is located in the Rambler Channel of the New Territories, Hong Kong. It is a three-tower cable-stayed bridge. The two main spans of the bridge are 448 meters and 475 meters long respectively, and the total length including approach roads is 1,875 meters. The bridge is part of Route 3, connecting Ting Kau and Tsing Yi. The deck is a three-lane dual-carriageway expressway with a speed limit of 80 km/h.

Construction of Ting Kau Bridge began in March 1995 under the working name "Ting Kau Bridge." After 38 months of construction, it was officially opened at 2:00 pm on May 6, 1998. As its completion and opening coincided with that of the Tai Lam Tunnel and the new Hong Kong International Airport, and since the bridge not only helped alleviate traffic congestion in the northwest New Territories but also facilitated commuting between the airport and the northwest New Territories, it is commonly referred to as the "11th Core Airport Project."

The three single-column pylons supporting Ting Kau Bridge are located on an artificial island in the Rambler Channel, at Ting Kau Cape, and on the northwest shore of Tsing Yi Island, standing 194 meters, 167 meters, and 162 meters tall respectively. In terms of weight, the structure includes 8,900 tonnes of structural steel and 29,000 cubic meters of concrete. The bridge is designed to withstand wind speeds of up to 95 meters per second, but during strong winds and the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon, the bridge may be fully closed or restricted to vehicles with a height of 1.6 meters or less.
