Mount Great Man

Mount Great Man is located about ten kilometers west of Tacheng City. Originally named Bakhtu Mountain, it now lies within the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The mountain stretches just a few kilometers in length and stands at an elevation of over 400 meters. It is a mimetic mountain. Famous worldwide for its striking resemblance to the reclining figure of the great leader Mao Zedong, it has become one of the most iconic landscapes in Tacheng City.

Mount Great Man was discovered in 1977, and images of it have been republished in many domestic newspapers and magazines. To view Mount Great Man,

you can be anywhere in Tacheng City, but the best vantage point is from Mao’s Pavilion in Fishing Park. On a clear day, climb up to Mao’s Pavilion, look westward, and you’ll see the Great Man lying peacefully along the mountain ridge—head to the south, feet to the north—with his high nose bridge, full forehead, tightly closed lips, as well as the mole on his chin, the buttons on his clothing, and even the pillow beneath his head all clearly visible. His serene and lifelike expression is truly remarkable.
