Yulong Bay Scenic Area (Bukumu Reservoir)

is situated in Duolu Township, Luopu County, 12 kilometers from the county seat and 7 kilometers from National Highway 315. It is a key comprehensive tourism, leisure, and sightseeing destination promoted by the Hotan region.

The Yulong Bay area features a natural lake-type hydrological landscape. During the summer high-water season, the lake is full of water, presenting beautiful scenery. The lake and the surrounding desert are uniquely combined, with abundant vegetation growing along the shore, creating a distinctive and highly developable tourist attraction.

This scenic area integrates snow-capped mountains, reed-fringed lakes, sand dunes, sandy beaches, poplar forests, flocks of sheep, wild ducks, white cranes, and an ethnic village. The central part of the scenic area consists of continuous sand dunes and open sandy beaches spanning 3 square kilometers. The lake’s surface area reaches up to 1,650 mu at its peak and shrinks to 480 mu at its smallest. Surrounding the lake are 15 fishing ponds of varying sizes, all encircled by reeds. To the northwest of the lake lies a dense poplar forest. In golden October, the yellow poplar forest, sand dunes, and snow-capped mountain reflections on the emerald-green lake surface, together with the wild ducks and white cranes gliding above, the Uyghur houses by the lake, and the grazing sheep, form a uniquely ethnic-flavored tourist attraction.

The scenic area has now been commissioned to the Xinjiang Branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences for planning. The planned development area covers 17.14 square kilometers. Following a comprehensive evaluation, the site has been designated as a 3A-level tourist scenic area. Plans include offering services such as sand therapy, sand bathing, vacationing, fishing, and leisure entertainment. The total planned investment is 55.2247 million yuan, with the overall construction period scheduled from 2006 to 2010. To date, a 7-kilometer asphalt road has been built from the county seat to the scenic area, along with a 5,000-square-meter parking lot.
