The First Cellar Ancient Cellar Site

The First Cellar Ancient Cellar Site is located within the Xinjiang First Cellar Ancient City Winery Company in Qitai County. In 2002, the company discovered the site while excavating wine cellars, promptly carried out excavation work, and then undertook preservation efforts. Currently, only one brick wall remains at the cellar site, constructed from blue bricks with a layer of white lime coated on the surface. The total length is 11.8 meters, and the height is 2.1 meters. It can be divided into two roughly equal parts. The northern part is more finely crafted, with slots for securing wooden boards every 1.2 meters, likely used for partitioning fermentation pits with wooden planks. The slots are spaced 1.2 meters apart, and there are also footholds on two of the walls for climbing. The southern part is more roughly built, with an uneven wall surface, seemingly added later, and is slightly newer than the northern section. There are remnants of two partition walls on the surface, which are also believed to have been used as dividers for fermentation pits.

Based on artifacts unearthed at the site such as blue-and-white porcelain bowls and earthenware bowls, it is inferred that the site was built in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, and continued to be in use during the Qing Dynasty. A wine history museum has now been established on the site of the cellar.
