Former Airport Site

The former airport site is located about 500 meters north of Xiaohetou Village, Xiaohetou Town, Wucai County. Wucai County serves as a transportation hub connecting northwest Shanxi, northern Shaanxi, and southern Inner Mongolia, holding significant strategic importance. To strengthen national defense, a unit of the People's Liberation Army Air Force constructed a military airfield in Xiaohetou in 1969, playing an important role in the development of national defense. It ceased operation in 1992. The existing runway is 2,500 meters long and approximately 60 meters wide. A watchtower remains in the southern part of the airport. The office area features a square-shaped courtyard layout, including one command building and two auxiliary structures, covering a total area of 160 square meters. The command building faces east and is a two-story brick-concrete structure, with nine rooms on the first floor and five on the second, and a lookout tower on the roof.
