Located in the secluded Songba Gorge, this area features stunning landscapes and precipitous landforms, seldom revealing its true face to outsiders. At the entrance of the gorge, the nearly 100-meter-wide Yellow River is compressed by the stone cliffs—sharp as iron tongs—into a torrent less than ten meters wide, which then suddenly drops into a deep chasm. The surging waters churn violently, with waves leaping and foaming like scattered pearls and splashing jade, creating thunderous roars that resemble a stampede of ten thousand horses. On the southern cliff of the gorge, sheer rock faces—carved as if by axe and knife—are sparsely dotted with dozens of bizarre pines that twist like dragons and snakes. On the northern side of the canyon, countless massive boulders are piled up, some as large as buildings and others as small as square tables, scattered chaotically and precariously balanced. In 1995, roads were constructed and invested in, connecting Ashigong to Songba and Qianhu to Songba, allowing visitors to drive directly to the gorge and witness the spectacular sight of the rocky waterfalls.
