About 50 kilometers from Lishi District in Shanxi Province, on the eastern side of Yunding Mountain, lies Xihua Town Grassland—a vast natural grassland spanning over 20,000 acres. Nestled among mountains at an altitude of over 2,000 meters, this high-altitude, cool, and humid region has an average annual temperature of 6–8 degrees Celsius. As summer arrives, the entire grassland bursts into bloom with fragrant flowers and lush grass, while herds of cattle and sheep roam freely under the blue sky and white clouds, creating a breathtaking scene.

The grassland is surrounded by pine and cypress forests, and within these woodlands, you can find over 20 species of wildlife such as brown eared pheasants, leopards, roe deer, pheasants, and wild rabbits, as well as more than 100 varieties of medicinal herbs like codonopsis and skullcap. The central plains feature vast meadows dotted with mules, horses, cattle, and sheep. In spring and summer, the green grass is like a carpet, mountain flowers are in full bloom, clear springs bubble up, the sky is high and the clouds are light, offering a cool and pleasant climate. In autumn, the area is covered with medicinal plants exuding fragrant aromas, while golden trees and red leaves create a mesmerizing view. It is truly rare to find such a green gem hidden deep within the Loess Plateau.

The terrain here is flat, with lush vegetation and natural grasslands covered in exotic flowers and plants, making it a typical subalpine meadow area, known as the “Second Largest Grassland in North China.”

The densest concentration of natural grassland is called the “Forty Li Horse Racing Ground,” home to over 100 species of flowers and plants. This beautiful natural grassland scenic area offers visitors the chance to experience the classic grassland scenery where “the wind blows the grass low to reveal the cattle and sheep.”
