The town boasts over 20 large ancient residences with impressive Qing Dynasty architectural styles, such as the “Yuwang Palace,” “Qing Dynasty Residences,” “Xinglong Street Courtyard,” “Yuantaihe Courtyard,” “Post Office Courtyard” (i.e., the former residence of Yang Angong), “Changtan Sizhitang,” and “Huimin Palace.” Experts have hailed it as a “rare complex of Qing Dynasty residential architecture.” Along the approximately 700-meter-long “Qing Dynasty Street,” buildings are staggered and courtyards are deep, exuding an old-world charm. Notably, the “Yang Family Residence” (i.e., the birthplace of the former PRC President — “Changtan Sizhitang” and “Yuwang Palace”), a key cultural relic protection unit of Chongqing Municipality, stands out among the many historic homes.

Shuangjiang Ancient Town is located in Shuangjiang Town, Tongnan District, on the lower reaches of the Fu River, and is one of Chongqing’s top ten historic towns. Established in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, it has a history of over 400 years. The town is surrounded by the Fuxi Stream and Houxi Stream, and its streets are paved with stone slabs. Today, nine streets remain: Zhongjie (Central Street), Dongjie (East Street), Shangxijie (Upper West Street), Xiàxijie (Lower West Street), Nanjie (South Street), Beijie (North Street), Xinglong Street, Shuixiangzi (Water Lane), and Laozhu Lane (Pig Lane).
