The Xishuangbanna Manlei Buddhist Pagodas are located on the hilltop behind Manlei Village, about 7 kilometers southeast of the Foshuang Highway in Mengzhe Basin, Menghai County. There are two pagodas, a larger one and a smaller one. The large pagoda stands 20 meters tall, the small one 15 meters high. Both have square bases and octagonal bodies. The tops of the pagodas are adorned with metal ornaments, and there are two small Buddhist temples between them. The mother pagoda is 9 meters tall, the son pagoda 6 meters tall. They are beautifully shaped, surrounded by ancient towering trees, and set in a beautiful environment. Legend has it that Sakyamuni, the Buddha, once led a distinguished disciple to Xishuangbanna to spread Buddhist scriptures and rested here. Later, the local Dai people built the pagodas with bricks and stones in his memory. It is said that these pagodas have a history of over 1,000 years. To the south of the pagodas stands a wild mango tree over 30 meters tall, and the small pagoda is said to be as old as the tree. The two pagodas have now been restored and serve as a site for worship and sightseeing by local Dai people and Buddhist devotees.
