Located on South Street in the ancient city, the entire street is made up of quaint, classic Chinese architecture. Walking down the street gives you the feeling of traveling back in time. The street isn’t wide—just narrow—and is lined with all kinds of small shops arranged in an orderly fashion. The shops are built from brick and wood, with some selling Pingyao specialties, others offering special local snacks, and still others dealing in souvenirs.

On Ming-Qing Street you can also see signs that you’d normally only spot in movies, such as those of escort agencies. Walk in, and you can learn about the establishment and history of these agencies. The deep ruts on the granite door sills of each dignified entrance tell stories of the bustling market streets of the past.
