The Cross-Strait Tourism Expo kicks off, with direct flights from Taipei to Shanxi taking under 3 hours

The 5th Cross-Strait Taipei Travel Expo 2010 opened on August 13–16, with 31 provinces and cities in mainland China showcasing their tourism attractions, setting a record for the largest-scale participation. The Shanxi Provincial Tourism Administration led a 66-member promotion team to Taiwan to introduce the ancient historical city of Taiyuan to Taiwanese tourists. Currently, the direct flight from Taiyuan to Taipei takes just 2 hours and 40 minutes, making it easy to explore the 5,000-year-old ancient civilization.

The Shanxi Provincial Tourism Administration came to Taiwan to promote cross-strait tourism.

The theme of the Shanxi pavilion was “Ancient Chinese Civilization, Beautiful Scenery of Shanxi,” highlighting the unique charm of Shanxi’s historic cities. It included three UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the Yungang Grottoes in Datong, the Ancient City of Pingyao, and Mount Wutai. These sites are not only magnificent Buddhist sanctuaries but also national-level scenic areas.

To promote the diverse facets of Shanxi, the Shanxi Tourism Administration has carefully curated six signature tour routes: Ancient Architecture & Religious Tour, Jin Merchant Culture Tour, Ancestral Roots Tour, Taihang Mountain Landscape Tour, Yellow River Civilization Tour, and Red Classic Tour. Visitors can choose according to their preferred travel style and freely customize their itinerary.

In addition, the Shanxi Tourism Administration has specially created a limited-edition “Shanxi Public Transport Smart Card.” Visitors who come to the Shanxi Pavilion during the expo have the opportunity to receive one, allowing them to ride public transportation for free and better experience Shanxi’s scenic beauty.
