Zhangbu River Canyon Scenic Area is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

The Zhangbu Scenic Area is located 65 kilometers from the county town. It takes about an hour to drive from there, covering an area of approximately 10 square kilometers with 30 scenic spots. As the first national AAAA-level tourist attraction in Qiannan Prefecture, the area centers around the canyon of the Langma section of the Cao Du River, an upstream tributary. The canyon stretches 6 kilometers in length, with a cutting depth of 50 to 25 meters, and a valley floor 30 to 50 meters wide. Due to variations in the orientation of rock strata and river flow direction, the canyon features various types of structures including oblique valleys, downstream valleys, and transverse valleys. Both sides of the canyon are lined with steep cliffs, peculiar peaks, and oddly shaped rocks, along with numerous caves, showcasing distinct karst landforms. Its unique geological wonders and enchanting natural scenery are captivating. The site is famed for its “Seven Wonders”: miraculous mountains, waters, stones, caves, bamboo, trees, and fish. Of particular note is the “Chinese Communist Party” inscription naturally revealed on the “Stone of Hidden Characters,” formed by a massive boulder weighing over a hundred tons that split into two upon falling to the ground, with the bold, protruding characters emerging distinctly along a natural fissure in the rock face.

The main highlight of the Zhangbu Scenic Area is the Stone of Hidden Characters, also referred to locally by the Buyi ethnic group as the “Stone of Salvation.” The massive rock fell from a cliff and split into two halves, with the fracture surface clearly displaying five large characters: “中国共产党” (Chinese Communist Party). Measurements show that the average height of each character is 25.2 centimeters, the average width is 17.8 centimeters, and each character protrudes 0.5 to 1.2 centimeters from the rock surface. The characters are neatly proportioned and square-shaped, each nearly one foot in size, with straight strokes standing out prominently from the rock. This phenomenon quickly attracted a surge of visitors, including curious locals and tourists from across the province and beyond, turning the once-remote Zhangbu Township into a bustling destination.
