Pingyao lacquerware originated in the Kaiyuan era of the Tang Dynasty, flourished during the Ming and Qing dynasties, and has a history of 1,200 years to date. It is one of China’s four major lacquer art forms, historically a renowned product of Shanxi Province, and the foremost of the “Three Treasures of Pingyao.” It has won numerous national gold and silver awards.

Yonglong Brand was registered in November 2003 and will obtain ISO 9001 quality system certification. The Yonglong lacquerware products made at the Pingyao Lacquerware Art Museum all use high-quality dehydrated basswood to create the base, which is then mounted with cloth and coated with putty. It undergoes more than thirty processes including layer-by-layer lacquering and polishing,

achieving a mirror-like lacquer finish. Then techniques such as gold inlay painting, relief coating, jade inlaying, cloud carving, and carved lacquer are applied. The lacquer layers are made of either natural or synthetic lacquer to decorate over a hundred patterns including classical figures, garden landscapes, flowers and birds, insects, scenic spots and historical sites, and famous artworks.

These are all completed purely by hand through dozens of processes. The main varieties include large, medium, and small screens, lacquer paintings, hanging scrolls, cabinets, stools, tables, jewelry boxes, plates, dishes, bottles, lacquer packaging, and more than three hundred other types. The designs are simple yet elegant, with rich and luxurious colors. They are durable for long-term collection, resistant to heat, wear, and corrosion. For maintenance, gently wipe with a cotton cloth, and applying oil enhances the effect.

Our museum is a tourist destination that combines sightseeing and shopping. It features exhibitions of Chinese lacquerware art, workshops for master artisans and technicians, and is complemented by classical, authentic Ming and Qing-style courtyards. Over the years, it has hosted nearly ten thousand visitors, including national leaders and dignitaries such as the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, Vice Premier Qian Qichen, Madam Jiang Huili, and Deng Pufang, as well as international guests. On December 3, 2000, after the revamp of CCTV’s program “—” into “Live China,”

our museum was selected as one of the outdoor shooting locations for the first episode. Host Jing Yidan gave a comprehensive introduction to our lacquerware products. With their exquisite craftsmanship and refined taste, our museum is a must-visit when you tour this ancient city.
