Luosiwo Scenic Area

Luosiwo is located 15 kilometers west of Duyun City, at an elevation of 1,738 meters. It is the sister mountain of Doupeng Mountain, and the ruins of an ancient fortress still remain on its summit. Legend has it that this was the site of the Tang Dynasty’s Bangzhou Prefecture established in the third year of the Zhenguan era (629 AD).

Luosiwo Mountain is majestic and densely forested, with vegetation coverage nearing 100%. The mountaintop plateau is flat and broad, featuring over 3,000 hectares of alpine meadows and more than 1,000 hectares of primeval forests, secondary forests, and bamboo woods. The mountaintop meadows are vast and boundless, with grass nearly 2 meters tall, creating deep, dense grasslands that are extremely rare in karst mountain regions. The area is home to rare plants such as fragrant fruit trees, liriodendron, eucommia, gastrodia, and coptis, as well as rare animals including the musk deer, giant salamander, Lady Amherst’s pheasant, pangolin, and small Indian civet.

Luosiwo features some of the deepest valleys in the Guanmaling Mountain Range and the highest waterfalls in southern Guizhou. Among them, the Tianluoshui Waterfall plunges over 100 meters, with the river valley below winding narrowly through lush woodlands. The Gunzhu Rock and Yangjiachong Valleys are nearly 300 meters deep, with cliffs as sheer as if carved by knife and axe. Other karst wonders include the Bell Striking the Ground, Dragon Clinging Cliff, and Square Pool Waterfall.

Due to its high elevation and ever-changing climate, Luosiwo boasts extraordinarily magnificent natural scenery. On sunny days, thick fog can suddenly roll in, turning the towering peaks into floating islands in an instant. At the foot of Luosiwo Mountain are the picturesque Gaizhai Reservoir, Lvyin Lake Reservoir, tea plantations, and traditional ethnic villages. It is a karst plateau scenic area that combines high mountains, valleys, forests, grasslands, and tea gardens.
