Pingyao Grand Theater is located at the Nine-Dragon Wall in the ancient city, west of the Confucian Temple and the Temple of the God of Wealth, south of the Kuixing Tower, and east of the ancient city wall. Originally named Lile Hall, it was first built in the 42nd year of Emperor Kangxi’s reign during the Qing Dynasty (1703), and historically served as a distinguished venue for official receptions, merchant leisure, theatrical performances, and banquets. The esteemed master Qi Gong inscribed the name for Pingyao’s “Grand Theater.”

The Grand Theater complex consists of six parts: the Nine-Dragon Wall, the Theater Corridor, the classical enclosed Grand Theater performance hall, the bar area, and the Southeast Sea Guesthouse. Among them, the Nine-Dragon Wall and the Grand Theater share deep historical and cultural roots. The Grand Theater is a comprehensive performance venue that showcases northern-style banquet dances, traditional opera performances, local delicacies, modern entertainment facilities, and cultural and artistic exchanges.
