Visiting the ancient city of Pingyao during the Spring Festival? How could you miss the excitement of the “Pingyao Chinese New Year” event?

From the 23rd day of the 12th lunar month to the 16th day of the first lunar month every year, the “Pingyao Chinese New Year” event is held in the ancient city, presenting the folk customs of Pingyao’s Spring Festival and the traditional New Year culture of the Han Chinese through activities such as street lantern displays, folk performances, New Year customs experiences, opera shows, joint calligraphy and painting exhibitions, and photography activities.

Visitors can enjoy flower lanterns, watch lantern displays, attend traditional opera performances, celebrate the New Year, and more. The activities are rich and varied. During the two days I spent in the ancient city, it was crowded with people and buzzing with energy every single day.

Spending the Chinese New Year in Pingyao is a great choice. In the ancient city, decorations are up everywhere, creating a strong festive atmosphere. The South Street, North Street, East Street, West Street, Ya Men Street, and Cheng Huang Miao Street are especially lively.

The area outside the ancient city is also lively at night, with special opera performances. In addition, there are beautiful lanterns to admire, and kids can head to the carnival to enjoy exciting rides and games.
