Doumu Pavilion

Doumu Pavilion is located on a small rocky hill southeast of Yuehua Bridge in the northeastern part of the county town, facing east and overlooking Guancheng River. It was first built in the sixth year of the Kangxi reign (1667 AD) and renovated in the eighteenth year of the Qianlong reign (1753 AD). The site consists of a pavilion, left and right gazebos, a main hall, the Temple of Zhuge Liang (Wuhou Shrine), and side halls, all arranged in a terraced layout along the mountain slope. The pavilion features a wooden mortise-and-tenon structure with triple eaves and a hexagonal spire roof. Its foundation is built with ashlar stones on the front, left, and right sides, standing 4 meters high. The rear foundation is carved directly from the mountain cliff. The first floor is rectangular, measuring 11.75 meters in width, 8.15 meters in depth, and covering an area of 95.76 square meters, with a corridor 1 meter deep. The eaves feature four ridges covered with small blue tiles, and the four corner upturns are adorned with mythical aogong (turtle-dragon) ornaments. The second floor measures 9.8 meters in length and 3 meters in width, with eight ridges and three layers of small blue tiles, also featuring four corner upturns with aogong ornaments. Below the corners are wooden carved bracket arms, and the perimeter is fitted with carved lattice windows. The third floor is hexagonal, rising from the center of the second floor, with six corner upturns shaped as aogong heads. These are supported by carved round melon-shaped columns, and the roof is covered with gray cylindrical tiles topped with a gourd-shaped finial. On the left and right sides of the pavilion are identical four-corner spire gazebos, each with a side length of 2.35 meters and equipped with handrails. At the center of these two gazebos is a 14-step stone stairway leading up to the pavilion. In front of the gazebos lies the main hall, a cantilever-roofed wooden structure divided into a central bay and side bays on either side. It spans 17.27 meters in width and 7.68 meters in depth. The front of the central bay has a 14-step stone stairway. To the sides of the stairway are stone flower stands—one with an ancient cedar tree and the other with an osmanthus tree. In front of the left flower stand is the Temple of Zhuge Liang, featuring a cantilever roof with nine pillars and seven beams across three parallel bays. It spans 10.2 meters in width and 6.8 meters in depth. In front of the right flower stand is the side hall, which has a gambrel-style roof, spanning 12.1 meters in width and 7.8 meters in depth. The corridor is 1 meter deep, with its roof covered in small blue tiles on all sides. In front of the side hall is a stone archway resembling a mountain gate, 1.78 meters wide. Stepping down the stone stairs from the gate leads you to the road along the eastern bank of Guancheng River. The entire architectural complex is divided into upper, middle, and lower terraced levels. The pavilions and towers are tucked among ancient locust trees and sparse woods, with oddly shaped rocks dotting the landscape. Visiting this spot offers a refreshing and uplifting experience.
