Chengdu Jinhua Temple

Chengdu Jinhua Temple is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Sichuan Province.

Chengdu Jinhua Temple was established in the 42nd year of the Qianlong reign during the Qing Dynasty. It is located in Jinhua Village, Tianhui Town, Jinniu District, Chengdu, and currently covers an area of over 11 acres. After arriving at the Chengdu Zoo bus stop, transfer to Bus 9 to Tianhui Town. It is about a ten-minute walk from there to the temple.

Jinhua Temple has a long history. According to historical records, the temple was once destroyed during the military conflicts in the late Ming Dynasty. During the Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty, the monk San'e initiated its reconstruction. His disciple, Zeng Ming, continued his master’s mission, raising funds through alms to begin constructing the Mahavira Hall in the winter of the 42nd year of Qianlong (1778). Later, the Front Hall (now the Guanyin Hall), Rear Hall (now the Bodhidharma Hall), Music Platform (serving as the mountain gate), side rooms, and monks’ quarters were also built. The temple houses several precious Qing Dynasty murals that are especially worthy of admiration. The Music Platform, in particular, supported by eighteen stone pillars, is grand in scale, beautifully shaped, and uniquely styled. In 1997, it was approved by the Jinniu District Government of Chengdu as an open temple. Jinhua Temple currently has nine resident monks who manage the temple according to traditional Buddhist monastic organization with well-established systems and orderly governance. The monks maintain pure and devout conduct, earning the trust of worshippers and enjoying flourishing incense offerings. The temple does not charge an admission fee.

Transportation: After arriving at the Chengdu Zoo bus stop, transfer to Bus 9 to Tianhui Town. It is about a ten-minute walk from there to the temple.
