Huang Family Ancestral Hall in Chongzhou

The Huang Family Ancestral Hall in Chongzhou is a protected cultural heritage site of Sichuan Province.

The renowned Huang Family Ancestral Hall in Yuantong Town, Chongzhou City, Sichuan Province, was originally built during the late Qing Dynasty and early Republican period. The existing structure features a two-courtyard brick gate complex covering approximately 800 square meters. The front section consists of a two-story building facing the street, with a main gate and a secondary gate set in the middle, flanked by walls with central ridges. The main hall has a single-eave, flush-gable roof; apart from the main hall, which is adorned with floral ridges, crane ornaments, and bell-shaped column bases, the rest of the buildings feature square, drum-shaped column bases and flush-gable roofs. The rear courtyard is exquisitely designed, while the front courtyard is spacious, combining classic Chinese architecture with Western-style pillars. The Huang family residence is decorated with motifs of orioles and peonies, subtly symbolizing wealth and prosperity. It serves both as a physical testament to the life and influence of mid-Republican era town landlords, and as valuable material for the study of the fusion between Chinese and Western architectural arts.

Construction control zone: extends 10 meters outward from the ancestral hall complex, bordered to the north by the outer walls of residential buildings, to the east by Qilin Street, to the south by the Supply and Marketing Cooperative, and to the west by the Xih River.
