Tanyun Temple is located within Sanjiang Middle School in Chongzhou City, Sichuan Province (a cultural relic protection unit of Sichuan Province), and has a history of over 350 years since its establishment.

The main hall of Tanyun Temple, situated in the central area of Sanjiang Middle School in Chongzhou, Sichuan, was built during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty. With its high eaves, large tiles, stone walls, and stone pillars, its architectural style is unique in Chongzhou and rare in western Sichuan, and it is listed as a “Key Cultural Relic Protected by Chengdu.”

The couplet at the Heavenly King Hall of Tanyun Temple reads: "Bringing peace to the nation, the people, Shu region, and the world, with aspirations rooted in the Spring and Autumn Annals; embodying literature, martial valor, Buddhism, and sagehood, shining as bright as the sun and moon."

Due to historical reasons, only the front hall (the Mahavira Hall) and the east wing room remain today. The two stone statues preserved in the temple are currently housed in the front Mahavira Hall. Apart from the rafters and purlins, the entire structure is made of stone, using ample and high-quality materials. The inscriptions in the temple document the construction process, successive abbots, renovation history, funding, land holdings, and administrative management by the local government. These records touch on religion, law, economy, politics, and geography, offering insights into the social conditions and local customs of the time, while also verifying and supplementing the history of western Sichuan during the Qing Dynasty.

Protection Area: The current occupied area.

Construction Control Zone: An area extending 15 meters beyond the protection area.
