Chengdu South Suburb Park is located next to the Wuhou Shrine outside the southern gate of Chengdu. The park covers an area of 130 acres and was built in 1943 as the former tomb garden of Liu Xiang, a Nationalist military general. The architecture of the tomb garden is grand and imposing, with a rigorously structured layout. Along its over 400-meter central axis, there are main structures including a grand gate in the form of a relief stone stele, a triple-arched gate, a square pavilion, a polygonal pavilion, and the Jianxin Hall.

South Suburb Park was first built in 1938 and was converted into a public park in 1953. It spans an area of 86,000 square meters, including 72,591 square meters of green space, 11,371 square meters of water bodies, and a green coverage rate of 89%. Originally the tomb garden of military general Liu Xiang, the park features majestic architecture and a carefully planned layout. Along its over 400-meter central axis, there are main structures such as a grand gate in the form of a relief stone stele, a triple-arched gate, a square pavilion, a polygonal pavilion, and the Jianxin Hall.

In 1953, it was renovated and turned into a public park, featuring an artificial lake, covered walkways, shaded flower paths, as well as recreational and sports facilities.

South Suburb Park is the only park in Southwest China with a northern Chinese garden style. It houses Chengdu’s largest red bean forest, with more than 300 red bean trees, as well as uniquely beautiful crape myrtle woods and wintersweet groves. Among these, the newly built Minghua Garden in 2001 consists of "Yinghong Garden", "Jiangxue Garden", and "Minghua Pavilion", covering a total area of 27,703 square meters. The garden is densely planted with camellias, azaleas, and hibiscus flowers. The overall landscaping design adopts artificially created rolling hills that closely mimic natural scenery. The park contains nearly 100,000 plants (including potted plants) and 5,800 square meters of lawn, forming a three-dimensional green landscape from ground level up into the air.
