Wang Guangqi’s Tombstone

Wang Guangqi’s Tombstone is a cultural relic protection unit of Sichuan Province.

On the west side of the Sichuan Conservatory of Music campus on Qunzhong Road in Chengdu, there is a quiet bamboo garden where a memorial pavilion for Wang Guangqi stands. The bluestone tombstone bears the engraved characters “Tomb of Mr. Wang Guangqi from Wenjiang” in regular script, written by Zhou Taixuan, a close friend of Wang Guangqi during his lifetime, a member of the Young China Association, and a renowned biologist. The tombstone is surrounded by a garland of hibiscus flowers, and the circular area at the top of the stone is engraved with a musical staff pattern. The horizontal plaque reading “Wang Guangqi Memorial Pavilion” was inscribed by Lü Ji, a famous Chinese musician. The couplet on the left and right was composed by Zhang Xiushu, a Sichuanese revolutionary and educator, and calligraphed by the renowned calligrapher Li Banli. The couplet reads: “A pioneer of the revolution, a youth of China; A world-renowned name, a master of music.” Chengdu’s Wang Guangqi Tombstone is a provincial-level cultural relic protection unit.

Protected area: 10 meters outside the base of the pavilion.

Construction control zone: 20 meters beyond the protected area.
