Yilu Lodge

Yilu Lodge is a cultural relic protection unit of Sichuan Province.

Yilu Lodge is a four-story building that combines Chinese and Western architectural styles. The entire structure is built from granite, with equal length, width, and height, reflecting the traditional Chinese aesthetic of “uprightness and dignity.” The first to third floors are surrounded by arched corridors made of granite blocks, while the fourth floor is constructed with reinforced concrete. The spacious porch and curved railings are typical features of Italian-style courtyard architecture, with many windows and doors featuring stained glass. On the wall directly opposite the main gate, there are three circular carvings representing “Heaven’s Timing, Earth’s Advantage, and Human Harmony.” Below these, on the left side, are carvings of a pine tree and a crane, symbolizing “longevity like the pine and crane,” and on the right, a deer and a bat, symbolizing “prosperity, wealth, and longevity.” Two hexagonal small pavilions with upturned eaves are classic examples of Chinese bell-shaped roof architecture. Their unique design stands prominently atop the building, resplendent and dazzling. The yellow roofs feature a lotus pedestal at the center, signifying the owner’s deep Buddhist faith. The rooftop platform is spacious, square, and offers wide-open views where the beautiful scenery of Mount Jigong can be fully appreciated. Liu Jingxiang, a late Qing Dynasty imperial scholar, once wrote a poem in the style of a “Bamboo Branch Song” praising it: “Through winding paths and turns one arrives at ease; stunning scenes surprise the eye anew. Towers and pavilions stretch beyond the clouds without end, yet none outshine the grandeur of Yilu Lodge.”
