Longdeng Grassland is located in Longdeng Township, Daofu County, stretching along both sides of the Sichuan-Tibet Highway. It is broad and expansive, resembling the Eight Auspicious Symbols in Tibetan Buddhism. In ancient times, King Gesar set up camp here, so in Tibetan, this grassland is called “Gesar Tong,” meaning “the grassland where King Gesar once waged war.”

On Longdeng Grassland, there is a lake called Zhumu Co (meaning "Jadeite Sea"), which is said to have been formed from the emerald headdress dropped by Gesar's beloved consort, Zhumu. Many waterbirds can often be seen resting here. On the nearby grassland, there is a regular earthen platform measuring 53 meters in both length and width, and nearly 1 meter in height. It is believed to have been Gesar’s military command platform. In nearby villages, there are also relics related to King Gesar, such as a “Dismounting Stone.”

By Zhumu Co Lake stands the Red Sect monastery Ranggu Monastery, which houses 108 statues of the deity of joy—male and female figures embracing each other—a collection that is the largest of its kind in the world. It is said that the color of Longdeng Grassland changes 12 times a year. The surrounding area also features the Zhamar River and vast forests of redwood trees, offering stunning scenery. The annual festival held every July is a grand local celebration, during which monks from Ranggu Monastery perform Tibetan opera about King Gesar. The site is currently being nominated for inclusion in the UNESCO World Natural and Cultural Heritage list.

Longdeng Township: A township under the jurisdiction of Daofu County. Originally, Longdeng and Seka were one township under the administration of Qianning County. In 1960, it was restructured as a commune, and in 1978, after Qianning County was abolished, it was placed under the jurisdiction of Daofu County. In 1984, Longdeng Township was re-established. Located in the southeastern part of the county, it is 48 kilometers from the county seat. Covering an area of 379 square kilometers with a population of 2,000, the Sichuan-Tibet Highway runs through the township. It administers five village committees: Lari, Range, Xiapulong, Nawutuo, and Kerka. The main industry is animal husbandry, producing beef, mutton, hides, and wool. ...
