Kangding Wild Yak Valley is located in Kongyu District, 126 kilometers north of Kangding County. It got its name from the herds of wild yaks (takin) that once roamed the valley many years ago. In recent years, thanks to afforestation and ecological conservation efforts, wild yak sightings have been reported again. Sometimes, local herders hear the sounds of their group migrations in the middle of the night, and the next day they find thorny shrubs flattened as if run over by a bulldozer. Due to the well-preserved wild ecosystem, even the local domestic yaks grow to be large, majestic, and robust.
