Muya Sacred Land Scenic Area

Muya Sacred Land Scenic Area is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

“Muya Sacred Land” was developed by the Kangding Muya Sacred Land Scenic Area Tourism Development Management Co., Ltd. It is located in “Muya Xinkang” on the western side of the Zheduo Mountain in the world-renowned City of Love Songs — Kangding. It is a scenic area in Ganzi Prefecture that combines folk customs with natural landscapes and is also a thematic tourism area themed around showcasing the “Tibetan Muya Culture.” The scenic area covers an area of 196 square kilometers and features numerous tourist attractions such as snow-capped mountains, grasslands, flower seas, rivers, lakes, and the folk culture of the Muya Tibetans. The core area spans approximately 100 square kilometers, extending about 31 kilometers from north to south and about 4.5 kilometers from east to west. The elevation of the scenic area ranges from 3,600 meters to 4,400 meters.

Muya Sacred Land Scenic Area is situated in “Muya Xinkang” on the western side of the Zheduo Mountain in Kangding. It is a thematic tourism area that combines folk customs with natural landscapes and is themed around showcasing Tibetan Muya Culture. It boasts numerous tourist attractions such as snow-capped mountains, grasslands, flower seas, rivers, lakes, and the folk culture of the Muya Tibetans. There are five main attractions in total. “Flower Sea Trail” was a favorite place of the Muya Princess in ancient times and is also the area in the entire scenic spot where flowers bloom earliest and most abundantly. “Sanskrit Blessings” is a well-known Tibetan Buddhist temple in the Muya region. “Heavenly Pasture Song” is the traditional winter grazing land of the Muya Kingdom, where the grass is extremely lush. “Buddha Blesses Muya” is a statue of Sakyamuni Buddha made from prayer flags. “Peak Screen” is a natural barrier that once protected the Muya Kingdom.

“Muya” was anciently known as “Miyao,” an ancient Qiang people from western China. This ancient Qiang group once migrated northward and established the famous Western Xia, and later migrated southward to establish the “Xi Wu Kingdom” west of the Dadu River, commonly referred to as the “Muya Kingdom.” The area of Kangding City, especially west of the Zheduo Mountain, has long been the main settlement area of the Muya people and is also one of the regions in China where the “Muya” culture is best preserved.

This land is not only the birthplace of the ancient and glorious Muya culture but also the hometown of Princess Muya “Gajamzun,” the fourth queen of King Songtsen Gampo of Tibet. The “Mingzheng Tusi,” one of the four famous chieftains in Kham since the Ming and Qing dynasties, is a descendant of the king of the “Xi Wu Kingdom.” The renowned Five Scholars of Muya (both former and latter) throughout Tibet were all eminent monks and scholars who originated from this land.

It has countless stories, is filled with legends, boasts simple and sincere folkways, is holy and beautiful, has a unique culture, and features picturesque mountains and clear waters. Here, you can not only explore the traces of ancient civilizations but also experience an extraordinary and pristine natural ecosystem.

To accelerate the development of Kangding as a tourist destination and respond to the development strategy proposed by the Ganzi Prefecture Party Committee and Prefectural Government to create a “National All-for-One Tourism Demonstration Zone” and build a world-class tourism destination, the focus is on highlighting the cultural tourism characteristics of Ganzi. The goal is to comprehensively optimize and integrate the tourism resources of Kangding City, fully implement the targeted poverty alleviation policies within the tourism industry, and thus establish tourism as a strategic pillar industry for both Kangding City and Ganzi Prefecture. To achieve this, key investment attraction efforts have been made, and the development of the scenic area has been entrusted to the Kangding County Muya Zeduo Tourism Investment Development Co., Ltd.

The scenic area is positioned in three aspects: ecology, culture, and economy. Ecologically, it focuses on mountain sightseeing, sunshine destinations, and spiritual purification tourism. Culturally, it centers on the research and exploration of Muya culture in Kangding City. Economically, it aims to develop a comprehensive economic community within the valley scenic area. The scenic area is committed to promoting nature-centric tourism, ethnic culture tourism, outdoor sports tourism, and eco-friendly green tourism.
