The Ten Directions Samantabhadra Golden Statue on the Golden Summit of Mount Emei is the tallest golden Buddha in the world and the first artistic representation of the Ten Directions Samantabhadra. The golden Buddha is a cast bronze and gilded statue, standing 48 meters tall with a total weight of 660 tons. It consists of a base and the Ten Directions Samantabhadra figure. The base is 6 meters high and 27 meters long and wide on each side, with carvings of the Ten Great Vows of Samantabhadra on all four sides. The exterior is decorated with granite relief carvings. The Ten Directions Samantabhadra figure itself stands 42 meters tall and weighs 350 tons. The entire golden Buddha design is flawless, with smooth craftsmanship, making it an extraordinary masterpiece among cast bronze giant Buddhas. It holds significant cultural value and aesthetic appeal, representing a convergence of inspiration and wisdom from artists on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.

The golden Buddha’s total height of 48 meters represents the 48 vows of Amitabha Buddha. The term “Ten Directions” refers both to the Ten Great Vows of Samantabhadra and symbolizes the ten cardinal directions in Buddhism: east, south, west, north, southeast, southwest, northeast, northwest, above, and below—signifying that Samantabhadra’s boundless vows can benefit all Buddhas across time and space as well as all sentient beings. The ten faces of Samantabhadra are arranged in three tiers, each with a distinct expression, representing ten different human mindsets.
