Zhongfeng Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Zhongfeng Temple is located at the foot of Huying Peak, with Baozhang Peak to the left and Baiyun Peak to the right. Situated between the two peaks, it is thus called Zhongfeng (Middle Peak) Temple. The novice monks' class of the Emei Mountain Buddhist College is housed here. Visitors often hear the chanting of sutras echoing through the clouds. It is 1 kilometer from Shengshui Chan Monastery. Hidden within lush woods lies this temple—Zhongfeng Temple. During the Jin Dynasty, when Taoism flourished on Mount Emei, this site was known as Qianming Guan (Abbey of Celestial Clarity), attracting Taoist priests from all over. By the end of the Jin Dynasty, as Taoism declined and Buddhism rose in prominence, the Taoist priests welcomed Master Mingguo, a Buddhist monk, to reside in the temple, converting it into Zhongfeng Temple. During the Northern Song Dynasty, Huang Tingjian, the prefect of Xuzhou, once came here to “practice quietude.”

Zhongfeng Temple was destroyed by fire in the 43rd year of the Shunzhi reign during the Qing Dynasty (1704 AD). Although it was later rebuilt, it never regained its original scale. The existing structures include the mountain gate, the Mahavira Hall, and the Samantabhadra Hall, where solemn Buddha statues reside in this tranquil sanctuary. The novice monks' class of the Emei Mountain Buddhist College is located here, and visitors often hear the chanting of sutras resonating throughout the courtyard.
