Emeishan Martyrs' Cemetery
Emeishan Martyrs' Cemetery is a patriotic education base.
Covering an area of 28 mu, Emeishan Martyrs' Cemetery consists of four parts: a memorial square, a memorial monument, a memorial wall, and a martyrs' tomb area. The cemetery began construction in 2013 with a total investment of over 10 million yuan. It currently has 160 martyr tombs, housing the remains of 136 martyrs.
The memorial wall is composed of three sets of sculptures, created based on three major political events in Emei’s long history.
The first set, "The Party’s Arduous Struggle," consists of four panels: "The Spark of Revolution," "The War of Resistance Against Japan," "Opposing Civil War," and "Greeting the Dawn." It showcases the glorious and outstanding history of the underground Communist Party in Emei.
The second set, "The Armed Uprising," includes four panels: "Secret Discussions," "Preparing for the Uprising," "Martyrdom with Valor," and "One After Another." It highlights the significant historical event of the Emei Armed Uprising in January 1935, demonstrating the fearless revolutionary spirit of the martyrs.
The third set, "Liberating Emei," comprises four panels: "Welcoming Liberation," "Grain Collection and Disaster Relief," "Suppressing Bandits and Overthrowing Tyrants," and "Consolidating Power." It reflects the arduous struggle during the early days of Emei’s liberation.
These three sets of twelve panels form a historical scroll that condenses the difficult years of Emei’s revolutionary struggle.
The cemetery houses the remains of 136 martyrs, spanning from 1935 to 2012. They include those who sacrificed in the Emei underground uprising, the War of Resistance Against Japan, the War of Liberation, the Korean War, the Sino-Indian border conflict, the Sino-Vietnamese border defense battles, as well as those who died during socialist construction across the country and foreign martyrs who perished in Emei.
Among them are Red Crag martyr Chen Junqing, Emei armed uprising martyrs Tang Jie, Su Zongxiang, and Tang Kai; Pang Haiyin, who was awarded first-class merit for quelling unrest; Zhang Qiyin, Zhang Youyuan, Huang Jiulin, and Wang Guangyuan, who were highly commended for their service in the Korean War; Fu Rulin, who died a heroic death during the Longchi unrest; and Ding Sheng, a 24-year-old “National Defense Science and Technology Hero” who gave his life for national defense construction...
