Puxing Zhu Family Courtyard

The Puxing Zhu Family Courtyard is a cultural relic protection unit of Sichuan Province.

The Zhu Family Courtyard is located in Group 1, Guangming Village, Puxing Township, Emeishan City, on a slope 10 meters west of the village. Stepping into the Zhu Family Courtyard, you are greeted by fresh air and an old-world charm that refreshes the mind and lifts the spirit—it can truly be considered a scenic gem in this mountainous countryside. The courtyard covers an area of 2,970.35 square meters and consists of two independent yet connected buildings. Its window lattices, curtain frames, beams, and other components feature a simple and elegant style. Though the Zhu Family Courtyard now appears somewhat quiet, it still retains traces of its former bustling household life.

The Zhu Family Courtyard faces south and was built during the Republic of China period. Originally a four-courtyard quadrangle compound laid out in a linear formation, only one and a half courtyards remain today. A complete quadrangle would have included the main house, front house, and left and right wing rooms. All structures are made of wood, feature a single-eave, gable-and-hip roof, covered with small blue tiles, and use a post-and-lintel wooden frame. They stand 7 meters tall with plain pedestals. Specifically: the main house is 16.7 meters wide (four pillars, three bays) and 10.3 meters deep (seven pillars, six bays), standing 7 meters tall; the front house is a stilted building, 16.7 meters wide (six pillars, five bays) and 6.4 meters tall, with the central bay serving as a passage and featuring a 17-step stairway with vertical aprons; each of the left and right wing rooms is 30.75 meters wide (ten pillars, nine bays) and 4.9 meters deep (four pillars, three bays), also standing 7 meters tall.

Today, as an important modern historical site and representative architecture in the city, the Zhu Family Courtyard continues to receive high attention from provincial, municipal, and various relevant departments. It serves not only as a comprehensive microcosm of local historical civilization but also as an excellent platform for people to explore historical roots.

The Zhu Family Courtyard is currently the largest and best-preserved stilted quadrangle folk residence in the city. It has been listed in the eighth batch of provincial-level cultural relic protection units.

Protected area: 4 meters eastward from the original courtyard retaining wall, 30 meters southward from the building’s base edge, 20 meters westward from the outer edge of the western building’s base, and 60 meters northward from the outer edge of the wing rooms in the quadrangle.

Construction control zone: 30 meters eastward, 20 meters southward, 30 meters westward, and 10 meters northward beyond the protected area.
