The Lumo Yela Scenic Area is situated between Aba County and Jiuzhi County and Banma County of Qinghai Province, located to the northwest of Aba County. It spans a total area of over 800 square kilometers, with two-thirds of the scenic area lying within Aba County. The highest elevation reaches 5,141 meters, and the average elevation is above 4,000 meters. It is about 50 kilometers from the county town.

Climate Characteristics: The Lumo Yela Scenic Area features significant diurnal temperature variations, a long winter without a true summer, spring and autumn seasons that blend together, an extended frost period, and distinct dry and rainy seasons. The multi-year average temperature is 3.3°C, the multi-year average rainfall is 712 mm, and the annual average sunshine duration is 2,383 hours.

Resource Characteristics: The Lumo Yela Scenic Area is a grand artistic hall of rugged peaks and peculiar rocks, vast in scale and majestic in presence. Its ever-changing, mysterious stone formations, profound depths, extraordinary lakes and waterfalls, and steaming hot springs make it a stunning stone fortress. Among the existing scenic areas in Aba Prefecture, it holds irreplaceable value and high potential for development. It is also an ideal destination for sightseeing, photography, exploration, scientific research, mountaineering, and eco-tourism.

Honors: The scenic area was officially designated as a National Geopark on September 19, 2005. In 2007, during the “Discover China’s New Wonders” event organized by the China Photographers Association, it was awarded the title of “China’s Most Promising New Wonder.”

Attraction Introduction: The Lumo Yela Scenic Area is widely dotted with horn peaks, fish-scale ridges, and “U”-shaped valleys. The entire scenic zone features towering glacial snow peaks, steep rocky cliffs, and various lifelike rock formations resembling human figures and animals. Numerous barrier lakes are scattered throughout the “U”-shaped valleys, typically measuring around 1 kilometer in length and 200 to 300 meters in width, with the largest being approximately 4.4 kilometers long and 400 meters wide. These many lakes bring boundless vitality to the massive grey granite stone fortress. The area is also home to wild medicinal herbs such as cordyceps and fritillaria, as well as countless rare birds and animals.
