Qing Dynasty Street

Zizhong’s tourism resources are unique, featuring the famous Qing Dynasty Street, which attracts numerous visitors with its simple yet rich Qing-style architecture. Originally named Xinzheng Street, Qing Dynasty Street was built in the 31st year of the Guangxu reign during the Qing Dynasty. As it was close to the state government office, it primarily served as a resting place for those dealing with lawsuits or official reports, and thus was lined entirely with inns, restaurants, teahouses, and taverns. Today, the street remains dominated by the food and beverage industry, with over 40 shops along the street offering Zizhong’s famous snacks, teahouses, and restaurants. At the northern entrance of the street, wooden pillars on both sides still display a couplet written by Bao Rukai, a renowned calligrapher from Sichuan and former education official of the Zizhong prefectural school, reflecting the prosperity of the street in those days.
