Jianchun Gate and the City Wall

Jianchun Gate and the City Wall are protected as a Sichuan Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The Zizhong City Wall is located in Zizhong County, Sichuan Province, China. The existing section of the Zizhong City Wall is approximately 2 kilometers long and includes five city gates. In 2002, Jianchun Gate and the City Wall were designated as a Sichuan Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit. In the second year of Emperor Gong of the Western Wei Dynasty (555), the city wall was built with a circumference of three li and was constructed from earth. It underwent multiple expansions during the Tang and Song dynasties. During the Yuan Dynasty, the earthen wall collapsed. During the Hongzhi era of the Ming Dynasty (1488–1505), the wall was rebuilt and changed to a brick-and-stone structure. It was gradually expanded during the Zhengde and Jiajing eras (1506–1566), reaching a total circumference of 1,363 zhang.

Protected area: The area within 5 meters outside the footprint of the city wall and gate towers.

Construction control zone: The protected area of the gate towers extends 30 meters east and west. The protected area of the city wall extends 5 meters south and north.
