Baishui Pass

Baishui Pass: In the “Biography of Fa Zheng” from the Records of the Three Kingdoms, Liu Bei said: “Yufu (Fengjie) and Guantou (i.e., Baishui Pass) are indeed the gates of fortune and misfortune for Yizhou.” The Jin Dynasty scholar Zhang Hui’s Record of the Southern Han states: “Shu had three passes: Yangping, Jiangguan, and Baishui.” The ancient Baishui Pass was located at Wuliyaa in Yingpan Township, Qingchuan County, Guangyuan City, just across a river from the ancient Baishui County town situated below the pass. Baishui Pass was situated along an ancient transportation route. By land, it connected northward to Qinchuan and southward to Jiameng. By water, traveling upstream along the Bailong River led to southern Gansu, while going downstream reached Chongqing and even Jingchu—an important military stronghold.
