Tomb of Fei Yi

The Tomb of Fei Yi is a cultural relic protection unit of Sichuan Province.

The Tomb of Fei Yi is located beside a farmhouse on the roadside, about one kilometer east of the eastern gate of Zhaohua Ancient Town. Currently, there is an earthen tomb and two stone tablets preserved for visitors to pay their respects. Fei Yi is mentioned in Zhuge Liang’s "Memorial on Dispatching the Troops" with the line “Guo Youzhi, Fei Yi, Dong Yun, and others — all are virtuous, honest, loyal, and pure-minded.” Fei Yi was among the wise ministers recommended by Zhuge Liang to Liu Shan prior to launching military campaigns.

After Fei Yi’s death, he was buried outside the western gate of Zhaohua. His tomb has undergone renovations throughout the dynasties, becoming even more grand since the Ming Dynasty. The tomb site is surrounded by walls, a spirit way, memorial archways, stele pavilions, the Temple of Lord Fei, and a thatched cottage. In the thirteenth year of the Yongzheng reign during the Qing Dynasty, Prince Guo, while escorting the Sixth Panchen Lama back to Tibet and passing through Zhaohua, visited Fei Yi’s tomb and inscribed a plaque that read “Profound Strategy and Extraordinary Insight”.

Unfortunately, the current Tomb of Fei Yi consists only of an earthen mound, about three meters high, and two stone tablets — one inscribed “Tomb of Fei Gong, Duke Jing, Minister of Works of the Han Dynasty”, and the other “Tomb of Fei Yi, Duke Jing, Grand General and Recorder of State Affairs of Shu Han”. Nearby stands a stone tablet that reads “Civil and Military Officials Shall Dismount Here”. Local residents still affectionately refer to him as General Fei.
