Taigong Red Army Mountain Scenic Area

Taigong Red Army Mountain Scenic Area is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

Taigong Red Army Mountain is located within the territory of Taigong Town, at the 71-kilometer mark on National Highway 212 between Guangyuan and Cangxi, covering an area of over 1,800 acres with an elevation of 977.2 meters. It is a provincial-level cultural relics protection unit, one of the province’s 36 classic red tourism sites, and a municipal-level patriotic education base for youth.

From 1933 to 1935, the headquarters of the 276th Regiment of the 31st Army, led by Xu Xiangqian, Commander-in-Chief of the Red Fourth Front Army, was stationed at the Red Army Compound on the mountain, where they directed battles such as the “Struggle for Yongningpu,” “Fierce Battle at Mengziya,” “Battle of Aopanguan,” “Three-Pronged Assault on the Huangjinkou Militia,” “First Crossing at Yuexi,” and “Westward Crossing of the Jialing River.” Existing revolutionary relics include the Red Army Compound, machine gun and rifle bunkers, mortar positions, the Red Army Well, the training ground, and the Red Army Tree. The site also houses an inscription personally written by Marshal Xu Xiangqian: “Honor the martyrs’ will and carry forward the glorious tradition” (now made into a 15-meter-high Red Army Monument). The collection also includes inscriptions and manuscript memoirs from one marshal and 40 generals, as well as 507 pieces of red culture calligraphy and paintings from across the country.

In 1985, with the approval of the former Guangyuan County People's Government, Taigong Mountain was renamed Red Army Mountain. Development and construction began soon after, and now the site features the Red Army Mountain Gate, a 176-step stone stairway leading directly to the mountaintop, the Red Army Pavilion, the Red Army Compound, the Martyrs' Cemetery, the Red Army Mountain Stone Carving Forest, the Marshal Xu Inscription Monument, the Sweet Dew Pool, the Poverty Pool, and the Arrowhead Pond.

The mountain is covered with ancient cypresses, including over 200 protected trees. With beautiful scenery and a pleasant environment, it boasts poetic local legends and stories such as the “Green Dragon Climbing the Tree,” “The Old Man Picking Mulberries,” “The Old Man Advising His Son,” “The King of Han Cypresses,” “Jiang Taigong Fishing,” “The Guest-Greeting Pine,” and “The Harmony Tree,” some of which have been passed down for hundreds of years.
