Tianji Mountain Provincial Geological Park is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

“The grand Buddha stands true to form, the immortal terrace is equally spectacular.” The park’s top highlights include a lifelike 100-meter-tall seated Buddha, the Feitian Waterfall with a breathtaking drop of 346 meters, and cliffside skywalks perched atop precipices.

Tianji Mountain Natural Scenic Area is situated on the southeastern foothills of Pingshun County atop the Taihang Mountains, neighboring Henan's Taohua Cave. It spans 196 square kilometers and sits at an elevation of 1,886 meters, earning it the title “The Ridge of Heaven.” With its pristine natural environment, mild and humid climate, majestic and expansive landforms, and well-preserved ecological vegetation, Tianji Mountain is known as the “back garden” of the charming city of Changzhi in the Shangdang region, boasting scenery that rivals the south of the Yangtze. The forest coverage of Tianji Mountain exceeds 90%, with mountain elevations ranging from 500 to 1,800 meters distributed across three levels of sheer cliffs. The scenic area enjoys year-round flowing streams, with waterfalls and springs scattered throughout the valleys. Caves, cliffs, gorges, and clear pools are truly breathtaking.

The cliffside skywalk at Tianji Mountain, accessible by elevator, is carved into the rock face with a drop of over 300 meters, offering sweeping views of the mountain landscape.

“Wind sweeps over the mountaintop bringing light rain, stones lean against perilous cliffs with cascading springs.” Waterfalls abound in Tianji Mountain. Among them, the Tianji Dragon Waterfall plunges 346 meters, making it the “Highest Waterfall in China” and earning the reputation “Huangguoshu in the south, Tianji Waterfall in the north.”

The park features nearly 40 unique attractions, including a three-tiered waterfall formed by murmuring springs, ancient cliff burial sites, the mysterious Lu Family Tomb, the vividly shaped Eight Precepts Carrying His Wife, the Lovers’ Beehive, Emerald Lake, and the Lingyin Cave. The picturesque Peach Blossom Villa and charming bridges over flowing streams offer scenes at every step, blending the area’s majestic beauty with a touch of southern charm.

Transportation information: Bus: Daily shuttle buses for the Tianji Mountain one-day tour depart from Changzhi Bayi Building at 7:30 AM, arriving at 9:30 AM; and from Changzhi to Yanglaoyan at 11:30 AM, arriving at 3:30 PM. Self-drive: Take the Changtai, Changhan, or Changjin expressways and exit at Lucheng.

Travel tips: Tianji Mountain Scenic Area is located in a cool temperate semi-humid zone, with an average temperature of 9.1°C, an extreme maximum of 36.1°C, and an extreme minimum of -23.9°C. The Tianji Mountain Buddhist Gathering is held on the eighth day of the fourth lunar month, and the National Journalists’ Rafting Invitational Tournament takes place here every September.
